Aura Movies does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party, ever. We do not run advertising networks, we do not use behavioral tracking for ad targeting, and we do not share your data with data brokers.
Introduction
Aura Movies is a free content discovery platform. We do not produce or own any media — we aggregate publicly available metadata and embed streams from independent third-party providers. This policy explains exactly what data we collect from you, why, and how we protect it.

What We Collect
Account Information (optional)
Only collected if you choose to create an account.
- Email address, used for authentication only
- Display name, used on your profile and comments
User-Generated Data (account holders only)
- Your watchlist, titles you have saved
- Your ratings, star ratings you submit on content
- Your comments, public text posted on content pages
On-Device Storage (localStorage)
The following is stored locally in your browser only and is never transmitted to our servers.
- Watch progress and continue-watching history
- Episode-level watched status for series
- Daily watch activity used to calculate your streak on the Stats page
- Autoplay preference
- AI personalised picks, cached temporarily in sessionStorage
Technical Data
- Device type, browser, and operating system, used for UI optimisation such as TV mode detection
- IP address, used for basic security and abuse prevention
- Session cookies, used to keep you signed in
We do not collect on our servers: payment details, search queries, or any behavioural tracking data. Watch progress is stored on your device only, not on Aura's servers.
How We Use Your Information
- Authenticate your account and keep you signed in
- Store and display your watchlist, ratings, and comments
- Detect your device type to serve an appropriate UI (e.g., TV remote navigation)
- Prevent abuse and maintain platform security
- Send essential account notifications (e.g., password reset) — no marketing emails
Third-Party Services
Aura uses the following third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy policy and data practices that are independent of Aura's.
Supabase
Handles authentication and stores account data, watchlists, ratings, and comments on our behalf. Data is stored on Supabase's secure, compliance-ready cloud infrastructure.
The Movie Database (TMDB) & OMDb API
Supply content metadata (titles, posters, synopses, ratings). These APIs are queried client-side; your IP may be visible to them when fetching data.
Google Gemini AI
Powers three features: AI search recommendations (the Ask AI button), personalised "For You" picks based on your watch history, and editorial blog content. When the "For You" feature runs, titles from your local watch history are sent to Gemini to generate suggestions. No account identity, email address, or personal identifiers are ever transmitted to Gemini.
Data Security
- All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS
- Account data stored by Supabase is encrypted at rest
- Authentication tokens are stored securely and never exposed client-side
- We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the service
Cookies & Tracking
Aura uses session cookies only, to keep you signed into your account. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or analytics trackers of any kind. You can manage cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Your Rights
You are in control of your data. At any time, you may:
- Access and review the information we hold about you
- Correct or update inaccurate account data via your Profile page
- Request complete deletion of your account and all associated data
- Withdraw consent by deleting your account
